We are delighted to announce that 2013 will see the birth of a Gaia Community Choir in London!

As many of you know, our Gaia Evenings have been bringing audiences and speakers together for a number of years now. Our cosy events held at Gaia House and Burgh House have been a great way to connect with many of you, and hopefully they’ve helped you all make some interesting new connections too. As advocators of the importance of communities connecting, and given how difficult this can often be in the vast anonymous landscape of London, we thought we would start to practice (or sing) what we preach, and find a way of being a more active part of our local community here in Hampstead and Belsize.

Rehearsals will take place from 6.45pm – 8pm in the Belsize Community Library on Monday evenings, starting on the 14th January. Choir membership costs £40 for the 10 week term.

The choir is open to everyone, regardless of experience, ability or confidence. There are no auditions and songs are taught by ear, so you don’t have to be able to read music. Our musical choices will be themed around nature and all things Gaian – any suggestions welcome! As well as songs from a range of contemporary genres (jazz, blues, world, reggae, soul…you name it!), we also hope to learn traditional songs from some of the communities we work with around the world. The GCC will be led by experienced choir director, Natasha Senanayake, who has experience in forming and leading choirs in both the US and Sri Lanka.
